MISSISSIPPI COUNTY SHERIFF ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION
Mississippi County Sheriff Britton Ferrell has announced that he is stepping down from office effective Thursday.
Ferrell made the announcement in a social media post, citing changing family circumstances and health concerns as reasons for his decision.
In his statement, Ferrell thanked those he has worked alongside during his time in office and said it had been a privilege to serve the people of Mississippi County.
Ferrell won a special election for sheriff in 2019 and was sworn into office several weeks later.
FOOTBALL JAMBOREE TONIGHT IN FESTUS
We are one week away from the official start of the high school football season in Southeast Missouri which means it is time for the annual jamboree.
The Poplar Bluff Mules will be traveling north tonight for the Festus Jamboree. In addition to Festus, the Jamboree will also feature Jackson, Farmington, and Seckman.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm tonight and every Poplar Bluff snap will be carried live on Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM and 930 AM as well as on the KWOC Facebook page and River Radio Youtube page starting at 5:45 pm.
DEADLINE APPROACHING TO REGISTER FOR FALL CLASSES AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE
The deadline is almost here to get registered for fall semester classes at Three Rivers College.
Today is the final day to register for the fall semester. The first day for classes will be next Monday, August 24th.

ARCHERY DEER AND TURKEY SEASONS BEGIN NEXT MONTH IN MISSOURI
The Archery portion of both deer and turkey seasons begin next month in Missouri and the Missouri Department of Conservation is encouraging hunters to be safe.
The initial archery season will run from September 15th through November 13th for both deer and turkey.
Hunters are reminded that only one antlered deer may be taken before the November Firearms Portion of deer season and only two antlered deer may be taken during the archery and firearms deer hunting seasons combined.
For turkeys, two turkeys of either sex may be taken during the archery and firearms portions combined.
During archery season, hunters can use longbows, compound bows, and recurve bows of any draw weight, crossbows, and hand-held string-releasing devices, among other devices.

POPLAR BLUFF MULES SEASON PASSES NOW AVAILABLE
Fans of the Poplar Bluff Mules athletics program now have a chance to purchase season passes for the upcoming athletic year and help our student athletes.
The Mules Booster Club is offering the passes, which grants access to almost all Poplar Bluff Mules home games in all sports for the 2026-27 school year.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE SET FOR POPLAR BLUFF FALL TENNIS LEAGUE
The deadline is here to register for the 2026 Poplar Bluff Fall Tennis League.
According to Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, today is the final day to register. League play will begin on August 31st, with matches played at Poplar Bluff Middle School and Hillcrest Park.

CURRENT RIVER CLEANUP SET FOR SEPTEMBER 12
AmeriCorps Senior and the Community Resource Council will be hosting the 5th Annual Current River clean-up for the National Day of Service on Saturday, September 12th.
The event will be from 10 am to 4 pm, spanning from Watercress Spring to Big Spring.
There will also be food and prizes as a part of the event as well.
