SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR OUR AREA THIS EVENING
Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas are looking at a slight risk of severe weather this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, there is a risk for scattered thunderstorms, including winds up to 60 miles per hour and 1 inch hail.
Officials say that isolated tornadoes are also possible, however the tornado risk is low.
FALL SEMESTER OF ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY BEGINS TODAY
Students are continuing to return to classes this week in Northeast Arkansas.
Today marks the beginning of the fall semester for Arkansas State University. Today is also the first day of school for students in the Rector School District.
Thursday will see some schools open in both Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri, including Crowley’s Ridge Academy and Sacred Heart School.
R.W. HUNTINGTON POOL TO CLOSE FOR THE SEASON AT THE END OF THE MONTH
A popular Poplar Bluff attraction will be closing for the season at the end of the month.
Officials with Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation tell KWOC News that time is running out for swimmers to enjoy the R.W. Huntington Pool this season.
The last day the pool will be open is Monday, August 31st.
AREA WOMAN INJURED IN CRASH NEAR MARQUAND
An area woman was transported to a regional hospital Monday afternoon after being involved in a crash near Marquand.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 64 year old woman, from Marquand, was driving on Route M, two miles south of Buckhorn in Madison County, when her vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree.
The woman suffered serious injuries in the crash and was air lifted to a St. Louis hospital.
PARENTS AND STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO REPORT SCHOOL SAFETY CONCERNS
With schools in Missouri restarting soon, state officials are reminding school personnel, parents, and students to report safety concerns.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Courage2Report Missouri program provides a safe and confidential way to report any concerns regarding school safety.
There are several ways to submit a report, including the Courage2Report mobile app, online at mshp.dps.missouri.gov, or by calling 866-748-7047.
Those reporting their concerns may remain anonymous by not providing their name.
PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT TO CAUSE DELAYS IN CARTER AND REYNOLDS COUNTIES
Route D in Carter and Reynolds counties will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction over the next week and a half as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The work zone is located from Route D in Carter County to Route 21 in Reynolds County.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through Friday, August 28th. Flaggers and a pilot car will be in place to guide traffic.
