RIPLEY COUNTY FAIR TO BEGIN ON JULY 29TH

Preparations are underway for the Annual Ripley County Fair.

Officials say that the fair will be held this year from July 29th through August 1st at the Ripley County Fairgrounds, south of Doniphan.

Multiple activities are planned for the four day event, including a beauty pageant, truck pull, car show, pancake breakfast, and more.

EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING

Heat index values could reach well over 100 degrees today and tomorrow in Southeast Missouri. 

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Tuesday evening at 7 pm. 

Officials say that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat index values to reach around 115 degrees. 

If you have to be outside for work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. 

Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

MAN FACING CHARGES INCLUDING KIDNAPPING AND ARMED CRIMINAL ACTION

A Doniphan man is facing multiple charges in connection to an incident early Friday morning. 

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, 32 year old Raymond Nelson was arrested at his residence after a victim reported that he had choked them, put a knife to the back of their neck, and also cut them in the belly. 

Nelson was booked into the Ripley County Jail on charges of kidnapping 1st degree, domestic assault, and armed criminal action.

MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING TRAFFICKING DRUGS, IN POPLAR BLUFF

A man is facing multiple charges, including trafficking drugs, following his arrest in Poplar Bluff over the weekend. 

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Gregory Leach was taken into custody Saturday in the 2000 Block of North Westwood Boulevard. 

Few details about the arrest have been released, but officials say that Leach is facing charges of assault 3rd, armed criminal action, resisting arrest, trafficking drugs, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a firearm.

POPLAR BLUFF NATIVE KAMERON MISNER TRADED TO PHILADELPHIA

Kameron Misner has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. 

According to MLB.com, the Phillies acquired the Poplar Bluff native from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for cash considerations.

He was then optioned to Lehigh Valley in Triple-A.

Misner has hit five home runs and put up a .206 batting average in 97 Major League games over parts of three seasons with the Royals and Tampa Bay Rays.

MAN FOUND DEAD ALONGSIDE COUNTY ROAD NEAR SIKESTON, INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

Authorities in Scott County are investigating after a subject was found dead alongside a county road. 

Shortly before 6:30 am on Saturday, the Scott County Sheriff's Office, along with EMS and fire personnel, responded to County Highway 529 near Sikeston in reference to a subject lying alongside the roadway.

At the scene, emergency personnel determined that the individual was deceased. The identity of the individual has not been released and the Major Case Squad was activated to assist with the investigation. 

Anyone traveling on or near County Highway 529 during the early morning hours of July 25th, and observed anything suspicious or believe you may have information that could assist investigators, is asked to contact the Scott County Sheriff's Office at 573-545-3525.
