OVER 168,000 RAISED DURING THE 2026 RIVER RADIO ST. JUDE RADIOTHON
Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas have come together to help the kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The final total for the 2026 River Radio St. Jude Radiothon on April 30th and May 1st was $168,029.
The total includes individual donations, collections from businesses and local events and the people who decided to become partners in hope.

BODY OF JUVENILE RECOVERED FROM ST. FRANCIS RIVER
The body of a juvenile was recovered from the St. Francis River after a two day search.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 3:58 pm on Saturday, reporting that a young child had fallen into the river at a boat dock in Fisk and had been swept downstream.
The search and rescue operation began immediately, including crews from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, and EMS, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and specialized water rescue and dive teams from across Southeast Missouri.
Search operations were suspended Saturday night due to darkness and unsafe conditions on the water.
The search resumed on Sunday and the child was located and recovered in about 30 feet of water, roughly 200 yards downstream from the boat dock. The name of the child has not been released
Dobbs says that he would like to express his appreciation for the overwhelming response from agencies across the region, noting that many responded without being requested.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON CRASH KILLS ONE IN STODDARD COUNTY
A man has died from injuries he received in a crash on Saturday in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 53 year old man, from Essex, failed to yield on US Highway 60 and struck another vehicle.
The crash occurred at around 4:30 pm on Saturday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham. The driver of the second vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
SUBJECT RESCUED FROM CURRENT RIVER AFTER SUFFERING MEDICAL EMERGENCY
A person was rescued by authorities after suffering a medical emergency in Current River over the weekend.
According to Carter County Sheriff Alonzo Bradwell, swift water rescue was activated early Sunday morning after the individual entered the river.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, National Park Service, West Carter Ambulance, and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office quickly mobilized, searching both the water and the riverbanks. National Park Service swift water rescue personnel ultimately located the individual in the river experiencing a medical crisis.
The individual was removed from the water and transported for further medical care.
Sheriff Bradwell says that the incident highlights the power of teamwork in critical situations and the life-saving actions taken last night were truly outstanding.
HANNAH HARPER TO FIND OUT IF SHE MADE AMERICAN IDOL TOP 3 TONIGHT
Southeast Missouri native Hannah Harper will be singing tonight for a place in the American Idol grand finale.
Last week, Harper secured her spot in the top five after performances of Taylor Swift’s “Mean” and Merle Haggard’s “That’s the Way Love Goes.”
At the end of the show, Harper was announced to be safe and advanced to tonight’s show, which will see two more contestants eliminated.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY
Route 153 in Stoddard County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway being closed is located from Route 60 to County Road 712.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
