SEATS ON POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL AND MULTIPLE AREA SCHOOL BOARDS TO BE DECIDED TODAY

Voters from across Southeast Missouri will be going to the ballot box today for municipal elections.

Voters will be deciding who represents them in their city governments in multiple communities, including Poplar Bluff, Fisk, Campbell, Malden, and Piedmont.

There are also multiple competitive races for local Mayors, including in Doniphan, Bernie, Greenville, Arbyrd, and New Madrid.

Numerous school districts throughout the area will also be holding elections for their Boards of Education.

HANNAH HARPER CONTINUES AMERICAN IDOL RUN, MAKING TOP 11

Hannah Harper’s journey to becoming an American Idol will continue for another week.

Harper survived the carryover elimination announcements from last week to advance to the Top 12 Monday night.

For 90’s week, Harper chose Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” from the three options given to her by the judges.

All three judges praised her performance.

At the end of the show, Harper was announced to be safe and advanced to next week’s Top 11 show.

BUSINESS A TOTAL LOSS FOLLOWING WEEKEND FIRE

A Southeast Missouri business is a total loss following a fire over the weekend.

According to the Campbell Volunteer Fire Department, crews responded to a fire at a mechanic shop at approximately 4:30 am Sunday morning.

The reporting party said they heard a loud explosion and looked outside and saw heavy smoke coming from the building, which was located on the corner of Elm and Grand Avenue.

Officials say that no injuries have been reported, however the building is being considered a total loss.

The Fire Marshals office investigated and the cause was found to be undetermined because of the extensive damage to the building.

OPEN ENROLMENT SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK AT POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN CENTER

Open Enrollment is scheduled for this week at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.

If you have a child who will be five years old by July 31st, you can get them enrolled for the next school year.

According to officials, open enrollment is set to take place from 9 am to 2 pm today through Thursday at the 1200 Camp Road campus. There will also be extended hours available today from 4:30 to 7 pm.

Parents should remember to bring their children’s birth certificate, social security card, proof of residency, and shot records.

PBHS DRAMA CLUB PRODUCTION OF 12 INCOMPETENT JUNIORS TO PREMIER ON APRIL 24TH

The Poplar Bluff High School Drama Club is gearing up for their 2026 Spring Production.

The Drama Club will be performing 12 Incompetent Jurors, a parody of the classic "12 Angry Men.” The show features a zany collection of characters on the jury as they deliberate the fate of a man accused of abducting half a dozen cats.

Performances of “12 Incompetent Jurors" have been scheduled for 7 pm on April 24th and 25th at the Kay M. Porter Theater in Poplar Bluff. A final matinee performance will follow at 2 pm on April 26th. Tickets are $5.

SIGNAGE WORK TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN DEXTER

Route AD in Stoddard County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform signage work. 

The section of roadway being reduced is located in Dexter from Business 60 to Stone Brook Drive.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through 3 p.m.

ROUTE 153 IN DUNKLIN AND PEMISCOT COUNTIES TO BE CLOSED FOR EARLY PART OF THIS WEEK

Route 153 in Dunklin and Pemiscot counties will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The work zone is located from Route EE in Pemiscot County to Route EE in Dunklin County. Additionally, Route M from Route 25 to Route 153 in Dunklin County will be closed while work is underway.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
