MAN SENTENCED TO 70 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

A man has been sentenced to seven decades in prison in Northeast Arkansas.

According to Sonia Hagood, State Prosecuting Attorney for the 2nd Judicial District, a Greene County jury has found Cortez Borders guilty of ten counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

An investigation in 2023 found that Borders distributed child sexual abuse material and solicited additional images involving minors through social media. He later admitted to possessing such material on his phone.

Following the conviction, Borders was sentenced to 70 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

HANNAH HARPER MAKES TOP 9 OF AMERICAN IDOL 

Hannah Harper will continue to sing next week on American Idol. 

Harper performed among the season’s Top 11 on Monday night. 

This week’s theme was hits from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Harper chose to sing “Landslide,” by Fleetwood Mac. 

All three judges were positive about the performance, with Carrie Underwood saying it was the perfect song for Harper to choose. 

At the end of the show, Harper was announced to have advanced to next week’s Disney themed Top 9 show. 


THREE RIVERS COLLEGE MUSIC DEPARTMENT TO HOST SPRING SHOWCASE TONIGHT

The Three Rivers College Music Department is hosting a Spring showcase tonight.

According to school officials, TRC vocal and instrumental students will perform an eclectic program of classical repertoire and musical theater standards during the showcase.

The Spring Showcase has been scheduled for 7 pm at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

VEHICLE OVERTURNS IN DUNKLIN COUNTY, MAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL

One man was injured in a single vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Southeast Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 29 year old man, from Ravenden, Arkansas, was driving on Route Y in Dunklin County when his vehicle travelled off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.

The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

MISSOURI YOUNG HUNTERS HARVEST OVER 5,000 TURKEY DURING YOUTH WEEKEND

Young hunters in Missouri harvested over 5,000 turkey this past weekend.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows that young hunters, between the ages of 6 and 15, harvested 5,255 birds during Missouri’s youth spring turkey season on April 11th and 12th.

This marks an over 800 bird increase over last year’s youth spring turkey season harvest total of 4,449.

The regular spring turkey season runs April 20 through May 10.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF TRUCK PARKING ON INTERSTATE 55 IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

The north and southbound truck parking near Mile Marker 3 on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County will be closed this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 4 p.m. this afternoon through Thursday at 7 a.m.

The truck parking will remain closed 24 hours a day until the work is completed.
