NAME RELEASED OF PERSON KILLED IN WEEKEND FIRE

Authorities have released the name of a woman who was found dead following a house fire Sunday afternoon in southern Butler County.

Emergency crews responded to the fire at around noon on Sunday on Highway C, south of Poplar Bluff.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC News that the person found dead had been identified as 76 year old Kerry Wilson, of Poplar Bluff. Akers says that Wilson was identified thanks to a dental examination by Dr. Mike Price.

A cause for the fire has not been determined, however the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, the Butler County Fire Department, and the Butler County Coroner are all involved in the investigation.

Akers says that no foul play is suspected at this time.

AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING VANDALISM AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CEMETERY

Authorities in a Southeast Missouri community are investigating a report of vandalism at an area cemetery.

According to the Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell’s Facebook page, they are trying to obtain more information about recent damage to multiple headstones at the cemetery.

The Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office says that anyone who has information about the damage is asked to call 573-888-2424 and ask to speak with Deputy Bryce Tinsley.

RICOCHET TO HEADLINE 2026 VALENTIES FOR VETERANS CONCERT ON THURSDAY

The 2026 Valentines for Veterans concert is coming this week in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Wake Foundation, the concert, featuring legendary country group Ricochet and Billy Yates, will be held on Thursday, February 12th at the Black River Coliseum.

Any remaining tickets can now be picked up by the general public at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center or by contacting the Wake Foundation at 573-281-5140.

FRIENDS OF WAPPAPELLO LAKE TO HOST MONTHLY MEETING TONIGHT

The Friends of Wappapello Lake will be hosting their monthly meeting tonight in Wappapello.

The meeting will begin at 6 pm at the US Army Corps of Engineers office.

The Friends of Wappapello Lake puts on many events in the Wappapello Lake area, including, the annual fireworks show, Movie in the Park, and the Festival of Lights Auto Tour.

PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TODAY TO DISCUSS INTERSECTION PROJECT NEAR MATTHEWS

The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing today to discuss improving the intersection of U.S. Route 61 and Route 80 near Matthews.

The hearing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Nutrition Center in Matthews.

During the meeting, MoDOT will share two alternatives for this safety improvement project—installing traffic signals or constructing a roundabout.

Tentatively, construction could begin as early as June 2027. Once work begins, it will be underway for approximately nine months. Motorists should anticipate delays, but the intersection will remain open to traffic during construction.

The public hearing will be open house style, and visitors can stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details of the proposals with the project team.

CREWS TO CLOSE WAYNE COUNTY ROAD TODAY FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT

Route Z in Wayne County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The section of roadway being closed is located between Route D and County Road 519 near Wappapello. While work takes place, the road will be open to local traffic only.

Work will take place today through 4 p.m.
