POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION
The Poplar Bluff School Board President has announced his resignation.
In a post on Facebook, Timothy Gaebler says that his family is moving outside of the Poplar Bluff school district, and because of that he felt it was right to step down from the position.
Gaebler also thanked the community for the support and trust they showed him.
NAYLOR MAN ARRESTED ON METH AND GUN CHARGES
Authorities in Ripley County have arrested an area man on gun and drug charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 63 year old Danny St. Cin, of Naylor was arrested shortly before midnight Tuesday night on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Troopers also arrested 68 year old James Yandell, of Fairdealing, on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
MAN IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING INVESTIGATION
A man is in custody in the Missouri bootheel in connection to a shooting investigation.
According to Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, officers were dispatched to a report of shots being fired during the early morning hours of January 20th.
Officers located a vehicle occupied by two people, one being a young woman with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to an area hospital.
An investigation led to the arrest of 21 year old Trenton Green, of Steele, on February 3rd.
Green is facing charges of 1st degree assault or attempt, two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He is being held at the Pemiscot County Justice Center on no bond.
REGISTRATION OPENS FOR THE 2026 OPTIMIST SOCCER LEAGUE IN POPLAR BLUFF
Registration is now open for the 2026 Poplar Bluff Optimist Soccer League.
Registration for youth in kindergarten through sixth grades will be open through February 15th and the registration fee is $25.
Games are tentatively scheduled to begin the week of March 23rd.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST JAZZ FESTIVAL THIS WEEK
The Three Rivers College Music Department will be hosting their Annual Jazz Festival this week.
Jazz performers from schools across Southeast Missouri will be performing live at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center in Poplar Bluff both tonight and Saturday.
Both nights will feature performances from the Three Rivers College Jazz Band, which will be joined tonight by junior high, high school, and college jazz groups from across the region.
The Saturday performance will feature the Southeast Missouri All-District Jazz Band, which consists of select high school jazz musicians.
Both shows will begin at 7 pm and admission is free.
BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY NEAR CAMPBELL
Route 53 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.
The reduction is located from County Road 211 to County Road 215 near Campbell.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through 4 p.m.
