MAN REPORTEDLY SCAMMED OUT OF $40,000 IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Ripley County Sheriff Rad Talburt is reporting that an area resident was reportedly scammed out of $40,000.
On Monday, the victim reported that he received an email for approval of a charge.
When the victim called the number in the email he was transferred to someone who identified themself as an investigator with the DEA. This person told the victim that a federal warrant was issued for his arrest, and they instructed him to gather $40,000 to prove his innocence.
Someone then came to the victim’s residence and the victim gave them the cash.
Sheriff Talburt is reminding the public that law enforcement agencies will never solicit payment of fines or bonds with cash, cash apps, or wire transfers.
If someone posing as law enforcement contacts you or a loved one and threatens arrest unless you send money, immediately hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency.
