MAN DROWNS WHILE SWIMMING OVER THE WEEKEND IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A man drowned while swimming over the weekend in Southeast Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 30 year old man from St. Louis was swimming in a private lake near Patton Saturday afternoon when he submerged and did not resurface.

The man’s body was recovered and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Bollinger County Coroner Calvin Troxell.

AT LEAST 25 MORE SCHOOLS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TO BEGIN SCHOOL YEAR TODAY

School opening week in Southeast Missouri continues today with at least 25 more schools welcoming back students.

The school year will begin today for kids in the Twin Rivers, Neelyville, Doniphan, Malden, Holcomb, East Carter, and Clearwater school districts, among others.

At least 11 more schools will start on Wednesday, including Poplar Bluff, Dexter, Advance, and Bloomfield.

JOINT INVESTIGATION INTO SIDE BY SIDE THEFT LEADS TO TWO ARRESTS

An investigation by a pair of Southeast Missouri law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of two people.

Officials say that the Carter and Wayne County Sheriff’s Departments were involved in a joint investigation over the weekend into a stolen side by side.

The investigation led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of Curtis Dugas. A search of Dugas' home also revealed suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The operation also resulted in a second arrest, Heather Thorn, who was taken into custody on an existing felony drug warrant from Wayne County.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A SIDE BY SIDE CRASH

A Poplar Bluff man was flown from the scene of a crash Saturday near Qulin.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 36 year old man was driving a side by side in a field off of Butler County Road 214 when the vehicle overturned in a ditch.

The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

MAN IN CUSTODY ON MULTIPLE RAPE CHARGES IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A man is in custody in Northeast Arkansas on multiple rape charges.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, 18 year old Hunter Wallace, of Paragould, was booked last week on two counts of rape.

Few details surrounding the arrest were available. Wallace is being held on a one million dollar bond.

SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH INJURES ONE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

One person was injured following a single vehicle crash Monday morning in New Madrid County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 39 year old man from New Madrid was driving on Route U, north of New Madrid, when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway, struck a culvert, became airborne, and overturned.

The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Memphis hospital.
