PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE EARLY TUESDAY MORNING IN POPLAR BLUFF
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Tuesday in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 29 year old man, from Poplar Bluff, was walking in the roadway in the area of Westwood Boulevard and West Pine Street when he was hit by the vehicle.
The incident occurred at around 5:20 am Tuesday morning.
The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
KENNETT MAN SENTENCED TO OVER TEN YEARS IN PRISON FOR SELLING METH
A Dunklin County man has been sentenced to over a decade in prison for selling meth.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 53 year old Clayton Barnes, of Kennett, pled guilty in April to two counts of distribution of methamphetamine.
He admitted to selling a total of over 150 grams of meth over two different instances in 2023.
Officials say that Barnes qualified as a career offender, having prior convictions that include a 2009 conviction for selling eight grams of cocaine base and a 2020 conviction for selling 14 grams of meth.
On Tuesday, Barnes was sentenced by a US District Judge to 128 months in prison.
DRIVER IN CUSTODY AFTER CRASHING INTO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI HOME
A driver has been taken into custody after a vehicle crashed into a residence Monday night in Caruthersville.
According to Caruthersville Police Chief Jerry Hudgens, shortly after 9 pm, officers responded to an area residence where they found the driver attempting to leave the area.
The driver was taken into custody and is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail.
Hudgens says that multiple charges are pending formal filing from the Pemiscot County Prosecutors Office.
Hudgens added that the incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY ON ROUTE 67 IN BUTLER COUNTY
Northbound Route 67 in Butler County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway being reduced is located from County Road 527 to County Road 429 near Poplar Bluff.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
EIGHT PEOPLE KILLED IN MISSOURI TRAFFIC CRASHES DURING HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Eight people were killed in traffic crashes in Missouri during the Independence Day holiday weekend.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers worked 246 traffic crashes, which included 115 injuries and eight fatalities.
None of the fatalities were located in Southeast Missouri.
This year, troopers also made 114 DWI arrests over the holiday weekend.
Troopers also investigated nine boating crashes, which included four injuries and no fatalities.
OVER TWO WEEK ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Contractor crews will be making driving surface improvements on Route B in Ripley County over the next couple of weeks.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from Route 142 to Route 160. A 12-foot width restriction will be in place while work is completed.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Friday, July 25.
