APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR NEW HIGHWAY PATROL RECRUIT CLASS 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is seeking applicants for its 126th Recruit Class. 

Highway Patrol officials tell KWOC News that the selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure which includes a written examination, a physical fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, background investigation, and oral interview board. 

To be eligible, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and be 21 years of age upon graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy.

DATE SET FOR FRESHMAN ORIENTATION AT POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL 

Freshman orientation is set to be held in August at Poplar Bluff High School. 

Officials say that orientation will begin at 8 am on Friday, August 15th. 

Students will get to learn more about life at the High School, get their class schedule, pick up their school laptop, learn the layout of the campus, and meet their advisory class. 

The first day of school will be on August 20th.

SHOOTING SPORTS YOUTH TRAINING CLASS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND 

Area children wanting to participate in shooting sports will have a chance to learn critical safety techniques at a class this weekend. 

A shooting sports safety training class for 4-H will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, July 19th at the Butler County University of Missouri Extension Office on Lindsay Avenue in Poplar Bluff. 

The class is for kids aged 8 to 18 and there is a limited number of spots available. Lunch will also be provided.

ANNUAL MULE SKINNER GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR AUGUST 

The Annual Mule Skinner Golf Tournament is coming up in August. 

The four person scramble tournament will be held on Friday, August 1st at the Westwood Hills Country Club in Poplar Bluff. Lunch will begin at 11:30 am with a shotgun start at 1 pm. 

Organizers say the entry fee is $600 per team, which includes a cart and lunch. Hole sponsorships are available for $200 per hole. 

All proceeds will go to benefit Poplar Bluff Mules athletics programs.

DATE SET FOR DUCK BLIND DRAWING AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE

A date has been announced for the annual duck blind drawing at Wappapello Lake. 

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers the drawing and registration will be held at 9:00 a.m. on August 16th, at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitors Center. 

The registration fee is $15 and applicants are asked to use a credit or debit card. 

Permitted duck blinds may be placed on the lake after Labor Day and must be removed from the lake, or transferred to a permitted storage cove, within two weeks of the closure of the zoned duck season.

10TH ANNUAL ST. JUDE VIP BANQUET TO BE HELD IN AUGUST

The date has been announced for the 10th Annual St. Jude VIP Banquet in Poplar Bluff. 

The event, put on annually by Poplar Bluff Heroes, is scheduled for Friday, August 8th at the Black River Coliseum. 

Officials say that doors will open at 5 pm for social hour, with dinner beginning at 6:30 pm. 

In addition to dinner, there will also be Live and Silent Auctions, Games, Raffles, a St. Jude Guest Family, and more. 

Tickets can be purchased for $50 each or $575 to reserve a table for 10 people.
