SWIMMER’S BODY RECOVERED AT LAKE WAPPAPELLO
A Puxico man was found drowned near Wappapello Lake on Sunday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 55 year old Jerry Pennington was swimming to an anchored vessel in Lake Wappapello, before he began to struggle, and did not resurface after submerging.
His body was found two miles west of the Wappapello Dam, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
DEXTER MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES
A Dexter man was arrested in Stoddard County on Saturday on drug and weapon charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 23 year old Charles Null was charged with a felony charge on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as unlawful possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.
ROADWAY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE IN DUNKLIN COUNTY DURING REPAIRS
A roadway in Dunklin County will be closed while undergoing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route E, from Route 84 to Route 25, will be closed while contractor crews perform overlay on the roadway.
The work is set to begin today at 7 am, and is expected to be completed by September 11th.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENT TO HOSPITAL FOLLOWING DOMESTIC DISPUTE
A Poplar Bluff man was sent to the hospital after being struck by his girlfriend in a domestic dispute.
According to officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 54 year old Marvin Clark was allegedly hit in the head with a candle warmer by his girlfriend, 53 year old Lisa Brown, which led to both her arrest, and the arrest of her son, 20 year old Jakeel Brown.
The incident came as a result of an alleged assault by Brown and her son, after she and Clark had been in an argument over text messages throughout the day.
The two went to Clark’s apartment, where the three of them began to fight after a brief altercation. As a result, Clark was sent to a Poplar Bluff hospital to receive stitches for blunt force injuries to his head.
Following a brief investigation, Brown was taken into custody on suspicion of 2nd degree assault, and her son was arrested on suspicion of 3rd degree assault, and 1st degree trespassing.
ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 33,000
Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County over the weekend, and the total cases in Missouri have reached over 33,000.
According to the Butler County Health Department, the County now stands at 150 total cases, after 8 cases were reported throughout the weekend. The patients have been self-isolated, and the Department is working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.
In Missouri, as of Sunday, the total cases in the state is 33,094, and 1,129 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES
A woman was taken into custody in Wayne County on Friday on multiple charges.
Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 43 year old Jaclyn Franklin, of Piedmont, was arrested for felony charges on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
She was also charged on an Iron County and St. Francis County warrant, and was transported to the Wayne County Jail following her arrest.
DRIVER INJURED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH
A driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in New Madrid County on Saturday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway 162, west of Portageville, where a vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned, striking an embankment.
Following the crash, the driver was transported to a hospital in Poplar Bluff for treatment.
