HIGH HEAT INDEX VALUES TO CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Weather officials are warning that we could see another day of high heat index values in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for parts of Northeast Arkansas as well as Dunklin and Pemiscot counties in Southeast Missouri through 8 pm this evening.

Officials say that heat index readings of between 110 and 116 degrees are expected for today.

For much of the rest of Southeast Missouri, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect from 11 am this morning to 6 pm this evening.

Weather officials say that they expect heat index values to reach between 105 and 110 degrees today.

Cooling centers have been established in Poplar Bluff at the Butler County Health Department, and Poplar Bluff Public Library. Cooling Centers are also available at the Fisk Community Library and the Qulin Senior Center.

A tool to find cooling centers for Missouri residents is available at the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website.

THREE INJURED IN WAYNE COUNTY WRECK

Three people were injured Monday afternoon in a Wayne County wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at around 3:45 pm on US Highway 67, around a half mile south of Coldwater.

Officials say that a vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital. The driver and a separate passenger received moderate injuries and were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

OPEN HOUSES SET FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF, TWIN RIVERS, AND NEELYVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICTS

Parents in the Poplar Bluff School District will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for this week.

Today the 8th grade open house will be held at the Poplar Bluff Junior High and 4th grade orientation is set for the Middle School.

The four elementary schools will be holding their Open Houses tomorrow and classes are set to begin in the Poplar Bluff School District on Thursday.

Open houses are also scheduled for today in the Twin Rivers and Neelyville school districts.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT AWARDED GRANT

The Poplar Bluff School District will receive almost $30,000 to help build an area playground.

School officials say that the district has been awarded a $27,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to use 12,500 pounds of recycled tire material to surface a 1,700-square-foot portion of the playground at the new Early Childhood Center.

The Scrap Tire Surface Grant will also help reduce the cost of building the enclosed outdoor playground planned for the future preschool campus site shared with the Kindergarten Center off Kanell Boulevard.

WAYNE COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY

Route K in Wayne County will be closed today while crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation perform pavement repairs.

The section of Route K to be closed is located from Route 67 to the end of state maintenance.

Work is scheduled to take place from 7 am to 4 pm.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route 25 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane beginning today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The work zone will be located from Route E to Route Y.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday from 7:30 am to 4 pm each day.
