MAN INJURED IN SHOOTING INVOLVING STATE TROOPERS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 

A man was injured in a shooting involving law enforcement on Sunday.  

According to authorities, the man had shot at a state trooper on Highway 60 near Sikeston. The trooper then shot at the man and struck him.  

The man, whose identity was not available, was transported to a hospital for treatment. The incident is under investigation.

FOUR INJURED IN WRECK NEAR VAN BUREN SATURDAY NIGHT 

Four people were injured, two seriously, in a wreck Saturday night near Van Buren.  

According to authorities, the wreck occurred at around 8:45 pm on Highway 21 in Carter County when a vehicle was attempting to make a left turn and travelled into the path of a motorcycle.  

Two people on the motorcycle, both Poplar Bluff residents, were ejected and suffered serious injuries. One was flown to a Jonesboro hospital, while the other was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. Two teenage passengers in the first vehicle received moderate injuries.

DRAINAGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON HIGHWAY 53 IN BUTLER COUNTY THIS WEEK 

Route 53 in Butler County is scheduled to be reduced to one lane early this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage repairs. 

MoDOT officials tell KWOC News that the section of roadway to be reduced is located from County Road 616 to County Road 617. 

Weather permitting, work will performed today and tomorrow from 8 am to 3:30 pm each day.

POPLAR BLUFF NATIVE COULD BE SELECTED TODAY IN THE MLB DRAFT 

A Poplar Bluff native could be selected during the first round of the Major League Baseball draft.  

According to MLB.com, University of Missouri outfielder Kameron Misner is projected to be taken during the late part of the first round of the draft today.  

Misner graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 2016 and was drafted in the 33rd round by the Kansas City Royals in the 2016 MLB First Year Player Draft.  

Misner choose to attend the University of Missouri where he has a batting average of over .300 with 21 home runs and 91 RBI’s over three seasons.  

The first and second round of the MLB Draft will be held tonight beginning at 7 pm on the MLB Network and at MLB.com.

DONIPHAN MAN KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE WRECK 

A Doniphan man was killed over the weekend in a motorcycle wreck in Carter County.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Keith Gambling was driving on Highway 21 Saturday morning when his motorcycle ran off the side of the road and struck a utility pole.  

Gambling was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Coroner Eric McSpadden. 

MATTRESS ON HIGHWAY 53 CAUSES WRECK IN QULIN AREA 

A mattress caused a wreck Friday night near Qulin.  

According to authorities, a 60 year old Poplar Bluff man was riding a motorcycle on Highway 53 when he struck a mattress in the roadway, around two miles south of Qulin.  

Officials say the incident occurred at around 9:20 pm Friday.  

The man suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

DELAYS SET FOR TODAY ON ROUTE 60 IN CARTER COUNTY 

Westbound Route 60 in Carter County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform roadside work.  

The section of Westbound Route 60 to be reduced is located 1 mile west of Route B.  

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7:30 am to 4 pm.

ELLINGTON WINS STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 

The city of Ellington is celebrating a baseball title.  

The Ellington Whippets defeated the Seymour Tigers on Friday 9 to 0 to win the Class 2 state championship.  

Kaleb Richards got the win for the Whippets, pitching all seven innings and only giving up four hits and no walks.
