STATE OFFICIALS CONDUCTING AUDIT OF PEMISCOT COUNTY

State officials say that an audit of a southeast Missouri county is being conducted.

State Auditor Nicole Galloway tells KWOC News that her office has begun a regularly scheduled audit of Pemiscot County.

The most recent audit of Pemiscot County was issued in December 2015, with the county receiving an overall rating of poor. The 2015 audit identified several county funds that were in poor financial condition, including the General Revenue Fund.

During the follow-up review, auditors found that county officials were working to strengthen the county's financial position by increased monitoring, but continued to approve a deficit budget for the General Revenue Fund.

The audit raised additional concerns about accounting controls and procedures in offices of the Sheriff, County Assessor and Public Administrator, and county property tax procedures. The follow-up review determined that some of the recommendations were implemented.

Individuals who would like to provide information for consideration in the audit may contact the State Auditor's Whistleblower Hotline by calling 800-347-8597.
