SNOW AND BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES ON TAP FOR EARLY THIS WEEK 

Our first round of winter weather will be sweeping over the area this evening and motorists are advised to slow down while on the road.  

Rain and snow are expected throughout the day today with snow accumulation possibly getting up to around an inch in Poplar Bluff.  

Some of our northern counties could receive around two inches of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Wayne County until 9 pm. 

In addition to the snow, the National Weather Service is calling for bitterly cold temperatures to move into the area starting tonight. An arctic air mass will hit Southeast Missouri, bringing wind chill values as low as single digits. Tonight’s lows will be in the teens and the wind chill will make it feel even colder.

ESCAPEE ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY 

A man was taken into custody in New Madrid County after previously escaping police custody. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 53 year old Darryl Pruitt, of New Madrid County, was initially charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender and second degree burglary, with an additional felony charge on escape from custody after resisting arrest. 

He was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following his arrest.  

DRIVER EXAMINATION STATIONS TO BE CLOSED TODAY IN OBSERVANCE OF VETERANS DAY 

Driver Examination Stations across the state of Missouri are going to be closed today.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the stations will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. 

Normal operations are set to resume on Tuesday.

TWO LOCAL MEN INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY 

Two Poplar Bluff residents were injured in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Friday. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the wreck was located on US Route 67, 2 miles south of Poplar Bluff. The crash occurred as a vehicle pulled into the path of another, totaling both. 

The driver of the vehicle received moderate injuries, and an occupant received serious injury. They were both transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES 

A Cape Girardeau man was taken into custody in Butler County on Saturday for multiple charges. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 49 year old John Bradley, of Cape Girardeau, was arrested on a felony parole violation warrant for larceny, a Butler County felony warrant for selling amphetamine, and for felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. 

He was also charged on a Dunklin County probation violation warrant for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana under 10 grams, and tampering with physical evidence. 

He was transported to the Butler County Jail following his arrest.

GREENE COUNTY MAN KILLED IN TRAIN ACCIDENT 

A Greene County man was killed in a train accident on Saturday. 

According to the Paragould Police department, 38 year old Benny Britt, of Greene County, was killed when a southbound train struck her on the tracks. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No information as to why he was on the tracks has been released, and the incident is currently under investigation.
