DEFENSE ATTORNEY CHARGED WITH TAMPERING WITH A WITNESS AND PERJURY IN CONNECTION TO BUTLER COUNTY TRIAL
A Springfield defense attorney is facing charges in connection to a trial held in Butler County.
38-year-old Adam Woody was charged last week with perjury and two counts of tampering with a witness regarding a 2016 retrial where Woody represented Michael Amick.
The Missouri Supreme Court ordered the retrial, moving the case to Butler County, where Amick was acquitted in the 2008 killing of his wife's grandmother.
A prisoner testified during a pretrial hearing that a fellow prisoner had confessed to the killing. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers are now saying that the prisoner was paid $1,000. The prisoner did not testify during the trial.
MALDEN MAN ARRESTED ON A DRUG RELATED CHARGE
A man was taken into custody in Malden on a drug related charge.
According to the Malden Police Department, 36 year old Jamiko Mathies, of Malden, was arrested on a Dunklin County warrant on the charge of possession of a controlled substance.
His bond is set at $40,000 cash only.
FISK FALL FESTIVAL SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND
A local town is holding a fall festival this weekend.
The city of Fisk is hosting a fall harvest celebration on Saturday, and will have booths, a parade, silent auction, and more.
The festival will begin at 9 am, and is located at 508 Garfield Street.

CAPE GIRARDEAU MEN ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
Two men were taken into custody on Wednesday in Stoddard County on drug related charges.
According to authorities, 55 year old Richard Putman and 35 year old Justin Donley, both of Cape Girardeau, were arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Both men were taken into custody in Stoddard County following their arrests.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL WARNS TO BE ON LOOKOUT FOR DEER CROSSING
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has issued a warning for deer crossings.
Colonel Eric T. Olsen, superintendent of the MSHP, tells that deer are more active this time of the year, which caused over 4,000 traffic crashes involving vehicles striking deer.
Some tips for avoiding a collision with a deer include slowing your vehicle when a deer is spotted, being on the lookout for more deer after one has been spotted, and checking for the reflection of deer eyes from your headlights at night.
MEETING FOR BECOMING A WALKING GROUP LEADER TODAY
There is a public meeting scheduled for today for an upcoming Poplar Bluff community activity.
The meeting will discuss how to become a walking group leader for healthy excursions through the community, and will be hosted by the Butler County Community Resource Council at 1 pm.
