TWO ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANTS IN STODDARD COUNTY

Two people have been taken into custody in Stoddard County on controlled substance warrants.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 35 year old Shane Bewley, of New Madrid, and 22 year old James Scherer, of Brownwood, were each recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Bewley’s bond was set at $12,000, while Scherer’s was set at $10,000. Officials say that both remained in jail as of this morning. It was not specified if the two arrests were connected.

WHEEL COMES OFF VEHICLE CAUSING CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff woman was injured yesterday after her vehicle was struck by a wheel in Dunklin County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident occurred in the Campbell area when a wheel became detached from a vehicle on Highway 53. The wheel then crossed the center of the road and struck another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

OVER 12,000 DEER HARVESTED DURING ALTERNATIVE METHODS PORTION OF DEER SEASON

Hunters in Missouri harvested over 12,000 deer during the alternative-methods portion of the fall firearms deer season.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, a total of 12,080 deer were harvested during the alternative-methods portion which ran from December 22nd to January 1st.

Of the total harvest, 3,081 were antlered bucks, 1,586 button bucks, and 7,413 does. Numbers were up from last year, where the harvest total was 10,027 with 2,830 being antlered bucks.

TWO KILLED, ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

Two people were killed and a young child was seriously injured in a single vehicle wreck Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at around 7:15 am off of Interstate 57 when a vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, 26 year old Natasha Newton, of Mounds, Illinois, and a passenger, 35 year old Joshua Bankson, of Villa Ridge, Illinois, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A one year old child in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

TEENAGER FACING CHARGES AFTER CRASHING INTO BUILDING

An area teenager is facing charges following an incident in November.

Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams tells KWOC News that on November 19th officers were alerted to a vehicle that had struck a building and left the scene.

On January 2nd, officers located and arrested a 16 year old male juvenile. During questioning the juvenile suspect admitted to being involved in the crash.

Chief Adams says the suspect is being charged with felony property damage and felony leaving the scene of an accident.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL DISPATCHER HONORED BY STODDARD COUNTY AMBULANCE DISTRICT

A dispatcher has been honored for her efforts in helping a baby delivery last year.

According to the Stoddard County Ambulance District, in November, Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Dispatcher Crystal Gibson assisted a mother in delivering her baby over the phone.

Gibson was recognized by the ambulance district at their annual awards ceremony with a “Star of Life” award, as well as the Communication Divisions “Employee of the Year” award.
