MOTORCYCLE WRECK CLAIMS LIFE OF POPLAR BLUFF MAN

Authorities in Butler County say that an area man died Saturday following a motorcycle wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 67 year old Charles Plemmons, of Poplar Bluff, was driving a motorcycle on Route O when his vehicle ran off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.

Plemmons was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead by Butler County Coroner Andy Moore.

 

PUXICO MAN KILLED IN WEEKEND WRECK

A Puxico man was killed and four other people were injured in a weekend wreck near Advance.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred Sunday afternoon on Missouri Highway 25.

A vehicle driven by 25 year old Joshua Whitehead reportedly crossed the center line, sideswiped a vehicle, and then collided head on with another vehicle.

Whitehead was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Two people in the vehicle involved in the head on collision suffered moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Two people in the vehicle that were sideswiped received minor injuries.

 

PROJECT TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK TO REPLACE BIG SPRING BRIDGE

A project is scheduled to begin next week to replace the Big Spring Bridge on State Route 103.

According to Ozark National Scenic Riverways, beginning on August 27th, the bridge will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Officials say the bridge could be closed for up to one year while it is being completely replaced.

Utility lines that are currently located on the existing bridge will be moved underground.

In addition to closing the bridge, several hiking trails immediately adjacent to the bridge construction site may be partially closed to ensure visitor safety. Signs will be posted advising visitors of any closed areas near the bridge.

AUTHORITIES SEIZE NUMEROUS CANNABIS PLANTS IN CARTER COUNTY

Authorities in Carter County say that they have seized numerous cannabis plants that were a part of an illegal drug manufacturing operation.

Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens tells KWOC News that over 24 plants were recovered, but did not say if any arrests were made in connection with the bust.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the South Central Drug Task Force were all involved with the seizure.

 

PARAGOULD TEEN KILLED IN HEAD ON COLLISION

A Paragould teenager has died from injuries she received Saturday night in a Northeast Arkansas wreck.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 21 year old Devin Browning, of Corning, was driving on US Highway 63 in Sharp County when his vehicle crossed the center line of the highway and struck another vehicle head on.

A passenger in Browning’s vehicle, 18 year old Perdenia Hill, of Paragould, was killed in the wreck. Browning and a minor passenger were injured and transported to a Memphis hospital. 

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody last week on multiple drug charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 year old James Quinn was arrested Friday night on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Quinn is also facing misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, he was held at the Butler County Jail.

 

POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION FAIR SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK

The Poplar Bluff High School Transition fair has been scheduled for this week.

The fair is for any student receiving special education services and their family members or advocates. The event will be about what they can expect after graduation.

The fair will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, August 23rd at the Poplar Bluff Senior High School and will include a chili dinner along with a meet and greet with community agencies.
