ONE INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN WAYNE COUNTY

A Piedmont man has been taken to an area hospital following a single vehicle wreck. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50 year old Raymond Mason was driving on Missouri Highway 49 in Wayne County, Wednesday evening, when his vehicle ran off the side of the road, overturned, and struck a tree. 

Mason suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff hospital. 


MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON SODOMY WARRANT

Authorities in Stoddard County say a man has been taken into custody on a sodomy warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Micah Adrian Pettit, of Jefferson, was recently arrested on a warrant for statutory sodomy. 

Officials say that there was no bond set and Pettit remained in jail as of this morning.  


TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST IN KENNETT

A Kennett man was arrested earlier this week following a traffic stop. 

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that the stop occurred shortly after 11 pm Tuesday night. During the stop, a K-9 officer conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and indicated a positive alert for the odor of narcotics. 

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia.

42 year old Don Amerson, of Kennett, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended.


MAN SENTENCED ON FIREARM CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO WAYNE COUNTY INCIDENT

A Licking, Missouri man has been sentenced in connection to the theft of a firearm in Wayne County. 

Officials with the United States Attorney’s Office tell KWOC News that 35 year old Randy Harris Jr., admitted at his plea in March that he had possession of a Hi-Point, 9 mm caliber rifle. 

The rifle was among five firearms stolen from a home in Wayne County in February 2017, when a group of persons entered the home and assaulted the owner. Officials say that Harris has a prior felony conviction for theft.

Harris has been sentenced to 54 months on one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.


WALMART IN CORNING TO CLOSE NEXT MONTH

The Walmart in Corning will be closing next month. 

It was announced on Wednesday that the store will be closing on Friday, July 20th. 

The pharmacy will also be closing on that date as well. 


POPLAR BLUFF TO HOST EVENT TODAY FOR INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

An event has been scheduled for today in Poplar Bluff for International Yoga Day. 

According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, the event will be held at Hendrickson Park beginning at 6:30 pm this evening. 

Judy Schremp will be the instructor and officials say that healthy snacks and water will be provided.

NEW DAY MINISTRIES TO HOST FEED AND SEED EVENT TODAY

New Day Ministries in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a feed and seed event today.  

The event is scheduled for 3 to 5 pm at New Day Ministries at 703 Franklin Street in Poplar Bluff. 

The event is first come, first serve, and packs will be limited to one per household.

OVER TWO WEEK LONG ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Route O in Pemiscot County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction for over two weeks as contractor crews perform pavement improvements.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be reduced is located from Interstate 55 to the end of state maintenance.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, July 6 from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm daily.
