ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED IN POPLAR BLUFF SHOOTING

One person has died and another is in custody in connection to a shooting in Poplar Bluff.

Few details about the incident have been released, however it is believed the shooting occurred late last night or early this morning.

The names of the deceased and the person arrested have not been released. Two other people were injured during the incident.

We will keep following this story and bring you additional information as it becomes available.

 

FOUR INJURED, INCLUDING THREE CHILDREN, IN WRECK NEAR DONIPHAN

Four people, including three children, were injured in a wreck Thursday morning in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on US Highway 160, approximately five miles west of Doniphan, at around 7:25 am Thursday.

The wreck occurred as a Ford Taurus was slowing for a tractor trailer and was struck in the rear by a GMC Yukon. This caused the Taurus to travel off the left side of the roadway, overturn, and strike a tree.

Three children in the Taurus, ages eight to 10, were injured and taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital. The driver of the Yukon suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

 

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN BUTLER COUNTY

Authorities in Butler County arrested a Poplar Bluff woman last night on a meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 39 year old Rebecca Hart was arrested at around 8:35 pm Thursday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Hart is also reportedly facing a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

REPORT OF SUSPICOUS PERSON LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

A report of a suspicious person led to a drug arrest last weekend.

Sergeant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that at around 1:30 am Saturday morning, officers responded after an alert citizen reported a suspicious person and vehicle parked in their neighborhood.

Officers began checking the area and located a subject wearing a black sweatshirt and black overalls.

Officers performed a search and found a pipe consistent with the use of illegal drugs in the front pocket of the subject’s overalls. A search of his vehicle revealed a syringe loaded with a clear substance wrapped in a bandanna.

The man, identified as 53 year old Robert Wilcoxson Jr., of Sikeston, was transported to DPS headquarters where officers did an even more thorough search and located a small plastic bag. The small bag contained two smaller plastic baggies, each containing small amounts of a white crystal substance believed to be
methamphetamine.

Broom says that Wilcoxson has been charged with a class D felony of possession of a controlled substance through New Madrid County Circuit Court. His bond has been set at $5000 cash or surety.

 

STARS AND STRIPES MUSEUM AND LIBRARY HOLDING ANNUAL SPONSORSHIP DRIVE

SUSPECTED METHAMPHETAMINE AND A HANDGUN FOUND DURING SEARCH IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Authorities in Southeast Missouri say that suspected drugs and a firearm were found during a search earlier this week.

Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield tells KWOC News that on Wednesday officers with the Steele Police Department along with the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, Pemiscot County Deputies, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol executed a search warrant at a residence located on Cobblestone Lane.

During the search, officers located and seized suspected methamphetamine and a handgun.

A 42-year-old man from Steele has been arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and felon in possession of a firearm.

Stanfield says that the man’s name is not being released until the filing of formal charges with the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney Office.

 

DONIPHAN HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA TEAM AND DONIPHAN FOR FOOTBALL TO HOST DINNER THEATRE

A dinner theater event has been scheduled for this weekend featuring students, alumni, and staff from Doniphan High School.

The Doniphan High School Drama Team and Doniphan for Football are teaming up to host ‘Southern Fried Murder’ beginning at 6 pm on tonight and tomorrow night in the DHS gymnasium.

Tickets, which include a catered meal, are $20 per person and available at the Doniphan High School office.
