SHOT FIRED DURING ATTEMPTED BURGLARY IN KENNETT

An arrest has been made in connection to a burglary attempt in Kennett.

According to the Kennett Police Department, Tuesday morning officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to a burglary in progress.

At the scene, officers located the suspect in the back yard being held at gun point by the home owner. The suspect was reportedly caught entering the victim’s residence and refused to leave the property at which point the homeowner fired a warning shot.

While securing the suspect, officers located narcotic related paraphernalia that contained a small amount of methamphetamine.

28 year old Jeremy Jefferson, of Kennett, was arrested for attempted 1st degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

TRANSFER PACT SIGNED BETWEEN THREE RIVERS COLLEGE AND ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY

Officials at Three Rivers College and Arkansas State University have signed an agreement to assist TRC students interested in transferring to ASU.

Last week, Three Rivers College President Dr. Wesley Payne and Arkansas State University Chancellor Dr. Kelly Damphousse met to sign articulation agreements for 21 academic programs, including accounting, computer and information technology, economics, and management.

The articulation agreements establish clearly-defined pathways for TRC students interested in transferring into bachelor’s degree completion programs at Arkansas State.

ST. LOUIS MAN ARRESTED ON FIREARM WARRANT IN STODDARD COUNTY

Authorities in Stoddard County say that a St. Louis man is in custody following his arrest on a firearm warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Bobby Joe McNair was recently arrested on a warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting with a felony arrest.

McNair’s bond was set at $35,000 and officials say he remained in jail as of this morning.

EARTHQUAKE SHAKES PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

An earthquake rattled parts of Southeast Missouri on Wednesday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.1 quake was recorded at 6:50 pm Wednesday.

The earthquake was located around three miles south southwest of Lilbourn and had a depth of almost nine miles.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CITY TO RECEIVE ALMOST $150,000 FROM SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM

A Southeast Missouri city has been awarded almost $150,000 from a school violence prevention program.

On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen and the Department of Justice announced more than $70 million in grant funding to bolster school security, educate and train students and faculty, and support law enforcement officers and first responders who arrive on the scene of a school violence incident.

As a part of the grants, the City of Fredericktown will receive over $148,000 from the COPS Office School Violence Prevention Program.

The funding is for school safety measures including coordination with law enforcement, training for law enforcement to prevent student violence against others and self, target hardening measures, and technology for expedited notification of law enforcement during an emergency.

DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY

Route Y in Dunklin County is set to be closed so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can trim the trees along the roadway.

According to MoDOT, the closure will be located from Route P to Route 164.

Work is scheduled to take place from 7 am to 3:30 pm both today and tomorrow.
