MULTIPLE COMMUNITY FLU CLINICS SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH IN BUTLER COUNTY 

Multiple flu clinics have been scheduled for this month in Butler County.  

Officials with the Butler County Health Department say that it is important to remember to protect yourself, family members, and the community from spreading the flu virus. Preventative measures include washing your hands and receiving a flu vaccine. 

A flu clinic has been scheduled for October 24th from 1 to 4 pm at the Butler County Health Department. Additional clinics will be held later this month at the Health Department as well as at schools in the Poplar Bluff, Neelyville, and Twin Rivers School Districts.

ALZHEIMERS SUPPORT GROUP TO BE HELD TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF 

A support group will be held tonight for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers.  

The Support Group will hold meetings at 6 pm on the third Tuesday of each month in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center cafeteria.

WILLIAMSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO HOST BENEFIT FISH FRY 

A Southeast Missouri Fire Department will be hosting a benefit fish fry this weekend.  

The Williamsville Fire Department will be holding a fish fry benefit for the family of their late fire chief Les Leword on Saturday, October 20th.  

The event will take place from 4 to 8 pm at the Williamsville Fire Department.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FROM THE POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Halloween is coming up and Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley has some tips to help keep your child safe while trick or treating.   

Chief Whiteley says parents should establish a route for children, making sure they stay within familiar areas and surroundings. An adult should accompany young children. Parents should also remind kids not to enter strangers' homes or cars, and to avoid homes without an outside light on. 

Be sure to tell your children to not eat treats until they get home and remember to inspect all treats before allowing your kids to eat them.

OZARK FOOTHILLS REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION TO HOLD MEETINGS TO DISCUSS REMAINING FLOOD DAMAGE FROM LAST YEAR 

The Ozark Foothill Regional Planning Commission has announced a series of meetings to discuss remaining damage from last year’s flooding.  

Officials say that the Commission wants to learn about remaining housing and public infrastructure damage, as well as unmet housing and public infrastructure needs in the counties that received presidential disaster declaration DR-4317 due to the flooding disaster of 2017. 

Area counties that received the disaster declaration include Butler, Carter, Reynolds, Ripley, and Wayne Counties. 

Meetings are scheduled for today at 9:30 am at the Ripley County Courthouse in Doniphan and at 10:30 am at the Wayne County Courthouse in Greenville.

FAFSA FRENZY EVENT SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE 

An event has been scheduled for this week to help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  

FAFSA Frenzy will be held on October 18th from 4 to 6 pm at the Poplar Bluff campus of Three Rivers College. 

Officials say the event is part of a statewide effort organized by the Missouri Department of Higher Education and is open to all high school seniors, current college students, and adults interested in attending college.

10TH ANNUAL HOWLING AT THE MOON SCHEDULED FOR EARLY NOVEMBER 

The Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is preparing for their upcoming benefit on Friday.  

“Howling at the Moon,” the 10th annual fall benefit for the AWA is scheduled for 6 to 10 pm on Friday November 2nd at the Holiday Inn in Poplar Bluff.  

Tickets will be available at the Chamber of Commerce with proceeds going towards building a no-kill animal shelter. There will be dancing, a silent auction, and catering provided by Karen Campbell’s Tasteful Creations, at the event.
