UNITED STATES SENATOR ROY BLUNT MAKES TOUR OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

One of Missouri’s United States Senators conducted a tour of Southeast Missouri yesterday just over two months ahead of the November election.

One of his stops was at Rice Trailers in Harviell. KWOC caught up with the Senator and asked him about his time in Poplar Bluff.

ROY BLUNT:

I’ve been coming to Poplar Bluff and Southeast Missouri a long time. I like it I think that the message of more jobs and less government is the right message for now, the right message for the future, certainly the right message for people listening to your radio station. You look at what's going to happen in world food demand, when you look at how well located we are to take advantage of that, Rice trailers providing the jobs they do for four dozen families makes a big difference, but the opportunity is out there where we're going to see a big part of the world economy double in a very short period of time. World food demands going to double in 35 or 40 years. Nobody's better positioned in that than we are and it's way beyond production and agriculture. It's that, it’s food processing, it’s food marketing, it’s transportation, it’s people needing more and better trailers, it's great opportunities to drive the economy and something that people have to have every single day.

Blunt is running for reelection this November against the Democratic challenger, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander.

SECRETARY OF STATE NOMINEE JAY ASCRAFT CAMPAIGNS IN POPLAR BLUFF

The Republican nominee for Missouri Secretary of State was campaigning Tuesday in Poplar Bluff.

While speaking with KWOC News, Jay Ashcroft said that visiting Southeast Missouri is important for anyone who is running for state office.

JAY ASHCROFT:

I love coming down to Southeast Missouri and Poplar Bluff and I think it's important for anybody that's running Statewide to go over the entire State. Last year I campaigned in every county in the state I'd love to do that again before the general election, because public service is a privilege bestowed by the people and if you can't take the time to go out and meet the people you certainly don't deserve it. We call this our election Integrity tour because we thought it was too long to say Jay Ashcroft’s Missouri Secretary of State election integrity and jobs tour, but those are the two big things. Election Integrity to make sure that people's votes count and it's the will of the people made known on Election Day. Making sure we don't have fraud in voting or misleading ballot language and then it's jobs and creating Economic Opportunity and getting the state out of the way to allow people to be the best that they can be. If we work together to elect individuals that understand that the role of government is to secure and promote individual freedom and liberty then we will have a much better state. We’ll have greater opportunity both for ourselves our children and their generation and that's what government should all be about.

Ashcroft will challenge Democrat Robin Smith for the Missouri Secretary of State position in the November General Election.
