PIEDMONT MAN DIES FROM INJURIES RECEIVED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, a Piedmont man has died from injuries he received in a single vehicle wreck on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on Route 34 when a vehicle driven by 71 year old Jon Hartley ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Hartley received serious injuries in the wreck, and was taken a Poplar Bluff hospital.

He was then transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he died on Thursday.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered moderate injuries. Their current condition was not available.

 

  MALDEN MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT A Malden man has been taken into custody in Stoddard County on a controlled substance warrant.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 31 year old Brandon Rice was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Rice’s bond was set at $20,000 cash and officials say he remained in jail as of this morning.

 

  NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION TO BE HELD AT TWIN RIVERS NEXT WEEK Parents in the Twin Rivers School District will have the opportunity to register their children for school next week.

According to Twin Rivers High School Counselor Christina Miller, Twin Rivers will be registering new students Monday through Thursday, by appointment only.

Parents will need to bring their student’s immunization record, three proofs of residency in the Twin Rivers School District, birth certificate, and proof of guardianship if applicable.

  DATE SET FOR 13TH ANNUAL ST. JUDE CAR SHOW The date has been set for the 13th Annual St. Jude Car Show presented by Briggs and Stratton.

The show will be held on September 10th at Briggs and Stratton in Poplar Bluff. Registration is scheduled for 8 am to noon and there is a $20 entry fee. Awards will be presented at 3 pm.

In addition to the car show, there will also be concessions, games, and a silent auction.

  BACK TO SCHOOL SALES TAX HOLIDAY BEGINS TODAY The new school year is approaching fast and parents will be able to save some money on their back to school purchases this weekend.

The Missouri Back to School Sales Tax Holiday began at 12:01 am this morning and will run through Sunday. During the holiday, certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and certain other items, are exempt from state sales tax.

Many area counties and cities are also participating in the sales tax holiday; however the cities of Poplar Bluff and Doniphan are not among them. More information is available online at dor.mo.gov.

 

  ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND FOR OZARK BORDER ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE Ozark Border Electric Cooperative will be holding its annual Board of Directors election this weekend.

The election will be a part of the Cooperative’s Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Saturday at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

It was estimated that over 2,500 individuals were in attendance during last year’s meeting.
