TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN WAYNE COUNTYA woman and a child were seriously injured last night in a single vehicle wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 32 year old Amanda Avery, of St. Charles, ran off the side of County Road 552 in Wayne County and struck a tree. Avery and an eight year old child in the vehicle suffered serious injuries.

Avery was taken by Air Evac to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. The eight year old child, along with three other children who received minor injuries, all were taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.


POPLAR BLUFF POLICE REMIND EVERYONE TO ENJOY SUMMER SAFELY Summer is in full swing and the Poplar Bluff Police Department is reminding everybody to enjoy their summer safely.

If you are planning on traveling this summer make sure your vehicle has been checked and is operating properly. Allow plenty of time for travel to and from your destination and remember to take an emergency kit with you.

While out swimming, make sure you are using a US Coast Guard approved life preserver where appropriate and never leave children unattended.

Also remember to stay aware of the summer heat conditions and stay hydrated and cool to avoid heat related injuries.


LIVE MUSIC AND CLASSIC CAR CRUISE TO BE HELD TONIGHT IN DONIPHAN A Classic Car Cruise has been scheduled for tonight in Doniphan.

The cruise, for cars from before 1980, will begin at 6 pm at Heritage Park in Downtown Doniphan. There will also be live music, an art walk, and concessions.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL JOINS NATIONWIDE WATER OPERATION The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be stepping up efforts this weekend to stop boaters from operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Highway Patrol has announced their participation in Operation Dry Water, which sees marine law enforcement officers from across the country coordinating special patrols during the last weekend in June.

In 2015 troopers arrested a total of three people statewide for boating while intoxicated, contacted 543 vessels and 1,531 boaters, and issued 85 boating violation summonses and 588 warnings on Missouri waterways.

Marine operations troopers also issued 137 summonses for non-boating violations during the 2015 Operation Dry Water weekend.


WEIGHTED BLANKETS DONATED TO POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM Over ten blankets have been donated to the Poplar Bluff School District for students with autism.

The Missouri Association for Family and Community Education donated 11 weighted blankets which will be distributed to the Early Childhood Center, Oak Grove and O’Neal elementary schools.

Volunteers from the organization hand-sewed the blankets, which are said to have therapeutic value for those with sensory disorders.

R-I Special Services Director Mindy Garrett tells us that the weighted blankets will be a huge help in keeping students in need focused and relaxed.


POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION TO PARTICIPATE IN WORLDS LARGEST SWIMMING LESSON Thousands of kids and families across the globe will be joining in for the 7th annual World’s Largest Swimming Lesson in an effort to help save lives.

Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation will be participating as well with an event scheduled for 11 am at the R. W. Huntington Municipal Pool in Poplar Bluff.

Officials say the event is meant to help prevent drowning, which is the second leading cause of injury related death of children ages 1 to 14.
