WOMAN KILLED WHEN VEHICLE STRIKES ANIMAL IN BOLLINGER COUNTYA Sedgewickville woman has died following a single vehicle wreck in Bollinger County.

According to the Highway Patrol, 49 year old Hope Thompson was riding in a vehicle that hit an animal on Missouri Highway 72 Monday evening. The animal crashed through the vehicle’s windshield and struck both Thompson and the 16 year old driver.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries.

 

DEXTER MAN IN CUSTODY ON SEX ABUSE CHARGE A Dexter man has been taken into custody on a sex abuse charge.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Bryce Demers was arrested on a charge of 1st degree sex abuse and for probation violation.

Demers bond was set at $10,000.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FIREARMS RELATED CHARGES Authorities in Poplar Bluff say an area man has been taken into custody after an officer saw him firing a gun into the air as the new year began.

The man, 49 year old James Johnson, reportedly appeared intoxicated and was taken into custody. The officer found the gun in a residence with a live round in the chamber and the safety in the off position.

Johnson is facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawful possession of a firearm by certain persons.

 

MAN REPORTEDLY STABBED WITH PAIR OF SCISSORS DURING FIGHT WITH GIRLFRIEND Two Neelyville residents have been taken into custody following a fight which saw one of them reportedly being stabbed with a pair of scissors.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that 46 year old Kenneth Turner told a sheriff’s deputy that his girlfriend, 26 year old Kimberly Smith had stabbed him in the head with a pair of scissors during an argument.

Smith told deputies that Turner had shoved her into a window prior to the stabbing. Both parties were taken into custody on charges of domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

 

TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY Two Poplar Bluff residents are facing a felony meth charge in connection to their arrest early Monday morning.

According to authorities, 38 year old Kay Chaffin and 25 year old Robert Hough were taken into custody shortly before 1 am Monday morning in Butler County.

They are each facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

 

MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN ATV ACCIDENT An Oregon County man suffered serious injuries Monday morning in connection to an ATV wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 73 year old Robert Gillham, of Koshkonong, was ejected onto an asphalt driveway after he lost control of the ATV and it overturned.

Gillham was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

 

FREE NUTRITION COUNSELING NOW AVAILABLE AT THE BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT Those with certain health conditions can now make appointments for free nutrition counseling at the Butler County Health Department.

Licensed Dietician and Certified Diabetic Educator Robin Harwell is available for appointments the second Thursday of each month from 8 am to 11 am and then from 1 pm to 3:45 pm.

The free nutrition counseling is for anyone dealing with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease.
