INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER MAN SHOT BY DEPUTIES IN PEMISCOT COUNTY 

A suspect was shot and killed by deputies during an incident last week in Pemiscot County.  

According to authorities, the incident occurred early Friday morning near Hayti.  

The shooting is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the two deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave.  

The identity of the suspect was not available.

DNA EVIDENCE USED TO DETERMINE SUSPECT IN 1998 MURDER

Authorities in Southeast Missouri say that DNA evidence has been used to determine a suspect in a crime that occurred 20 years ago.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a suspect has been identified in the 1998 murders of Megan and Sherri Scherer.

SHOT FIRED DURING ATTEMPTED BURGLARY IN KENNETT

An arrest has been made in connection to a burglary attempt in Kennett.

According to the Kennett Police Department, Tuesday morning officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to a burglary in progress.

At the scene, officers located the suspect in the back yard being held at gun point by the home owner. The suspect was reportedly caught entering the victim’s residence and refused to leave the property at which point the homeowner fired a warning shot.

MAN SENTENCED FOR AREA BURGLARY 

Another man has been sentenced in connection to a burglary last year at a Poplar Bluff area business.  

Officials with the United States Attorney’s Office tell KWOC News that Demarlon Richardson, of Poplar Bluff and Germonde Brunner, Arlandus Howard, Norlando Jackson, and Antywan Seawood, of East St. Louis, Illinois, were previously taken into custody in connection to the burglary of Instapawn near Poplar Bluff. 

Officials say the burglary occurred on February 28, 2017, when the five men stole over 60 firearms. 

Arlandus Howard was sentenced on Tuesday to 12 years imprisonment for possession of stolen firearms, carjacking and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. 

The four other men were sentenced earlier this year.

WRECK NEAR VAN BUREN LEAVES ONE DEAD

A Monday morning wreck near Van Buren resulted in the death of an Ellsinore woman.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred at around 11 am on Eastbound Highway 60 and Route ZZ in Carter County.

A vehicle, driven by 86 year old Harriett Sylvester, reportedly traveled into the path of an oncoming freightliner.

FRIDAY AT THE BUTLER COUNTY FAIR

The annual Beauty Pageant is one of the headline events for tonight at the Butler County Fair.

The Lil Mister & Miss Butler County Fair pageant will begin at 6 pm at the Black River Coliseum.

The big show at Ray Clinton Park tonight featuring the International Miniature Rodeo, Leeza Edmundson, and the John D. Hale band will also begin at 6 pm. Also on the schedule for tonight is the Truck and Tractor Pull at 7 pm.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING HOSTAGE SITUATION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY 

A man is dead following a hostage situation yesterday in New Madrid County.  

According to the Cape Girardeau and Bollinger County Major Case Squad a man was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a rural Cape Girardeau County residence. Officials say that foul play was suspected.  

A male suspect was identified during an investigation and was located later Wednesday at a hotel in New Madrid County.  

Officials say the suspect had a female hostage with him.  

After authorities attempted to negotiate with the man, the male suspect committed suicide. The female hostage was unharmed. 

The names of the suspect and the earlier victim were not released.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SCHOOL OFFICIAL FACING CHARGES OF SEXUAL CONTACT WITH A STUDENT 

A staff member at New Madrid County Central High School is facing multiple charges of sexual contact with a student.  

34 year old Ryan Blocker, of Lilbourn, was taken into custody on Tuesday.  

According to Missouri Case Net, Blocker has been charged with five counts of sexual contact with a student and a single count of sexual contact with a student by a teacher.  

His bond has been set at $50,000.

ARREST MADE IN WAYNE COUNTY SHOOTING 

An arrest has been made in connection to a shooting last week in Wayne County. 

According to authorities, 34 year old Adam Alden, of Piedmont, has been taken into custody on charges of armed criminal action and 2nd degree assault.  

The shooting occurred early Friday morning and the victim, whose name was not available, was reportedly in stable condition.

MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO MURDER CHARGE

A Cardwell man has been sentenced on a murder charge.

According to Missouri Case Net, Charles Lipper pled guilty Thursday to a charge of 1st degree murder.

Lipper was taken into custody in March of this year in connection to the death of 77 year old Vada Nichols, of Cardwell.

NORTHEAST ARKANSAS MAN FACING 20 YEARS IN PRISON ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES 

A Clay County man entered a guilty plea yesterday on child pornography related charges.  

Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington tells KWOC News that 43 year old Shane Thompson has pled guilty to four counts of distributing, possessing, and viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child. 

In April, the Arkansas State Police recovered multiple digital devices containing explicit child pornography during a search of Thompson’s home. 

On two of the counts, Thompson was sentenced to ten years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. Ellington says the sentences will run consecutively for a total of 20 years.  

On the other two counts, he received a 120 month suspended sentence.

KENNETT MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES 

Authorities say that a Kennett man was arrested Monday on multiple charges.  

According to the Kennett Police Department, Monday afternoon officers received information that a subject with outstanding warrants was sitting inside a vehicle on Central Street. 

At the scene, officers located the man barricaded inside a van and armed with a shotgun.  

After speaking with officers, 26 year old James Payne was taken into custody without incident.  

Inside the vehicle, officers located an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, prescription medication, ammunition, and the firearm.  

Payne was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and on a preexisting warrant issued out of Dunklin County.

AREA WOMAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN BUTLER COUNTY 

An area woman has been taken into custody in Butler County on a felony drug charge.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 38 year old Mary Babcock, of Piedmont, was arrested Sunday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.  

Babcock is also reportedly facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Jail.

ARCHERY DEER SEASON TO GET UNDER WAY THIS WEEKEND IN MISSOURI

Missouri hunters will be out starting this weekend for the beginning of deer archery season.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, the season will run from September 15th through November 9th and then from November 21st through January 15th.

The hours will be from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

TWO ARRESTED, TWO OTHERS SOUGHT, IN CONNECTION TO SIKESTON HOMICIDE 

Officials say that two men have been taken into custody and another two are still being sought in connection to a homicide last month in Sikeston. 

Sergeant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that 18 year old Reginald Rush, of Sikeston, and 18 year old Donta Depree, of Cape Girardeau, were arrested last week as a part of an investigation into the shooting death of Marcus Price on August 23rd. 

Rush and Depree have each been charged with murder 1st, robbery 1st, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. 

Broom says that arrest warrants has also been issued for 19 year old DeShauntay Craig and Tyce Cody, both of Sikeston, on the charges of murder 1st , armed criminal action, and robbery 1st.
